Orientation, Role & Person-Centered Care

โค๏ธ What Is Person-Centered Care?

Person-centered care places the individual at the center of the care relationship. The aide should respect the client’s preferences, values, dignity, culture, choices and personal goals.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ Role of the Home Health Aide

Home Health Aides may assist clients with activities of daily living, personal care, mobility, household tasks, meal preparation and other services permitted by the client’s care plan and applicable requirements.

  • Assist with toileting and personal hygiene.
  • Support safe mobility and transfers.

MODULE 2

Aging & Recognizing Changes in Older Adults

Aging involves many normal physical, sensory and functional changes. An HHA should understand normal aging while remaining alert for changes that may indicate illness, injury or another concern.

  • Changes in vision and ability to focus.
  • Reduced hearing, especially high-frequency sounds.
  • Thinner, more fragile skin.
  • Reduced muscle strength and flexibility.
  • Changes in bone density.

  • Slower information processing may occur.
๐Ÿšจ Remember: Sudden confusion, new weakness, chest pain, difficulty breathing or other significant changes should not simply be assumed to be “normal aging.” Follow agency procedures and report changes promptly.
