Does this sound familiar?

You were a strong nurse. You studied. You walk into an AGACNP exam feeling ready, and then you fail a test on information you actually know.

  • Two answers both look right, and you pick the wrong one.
  • You knew the drug, but missed what the question was really asking.
  • Your textbooks are thousands of pages, and you don’t know what matters most.
  • Doses, ABGs, electrolytes, and vasopressors blur together.
  • You worry you will start your first NP job and have to ask 1,000 questions on day one.

Here is why: it is not that you don’t know enough. You were never taught how to read for your exam. NP exams test whether you can spot the key fact and the first-choice answer fast. That is a skill, and it is built on a set of fundamentals you should know by heart.

Introducing The AGACNP Fundamentals Guide

This is not another textbook. Its full title is The Ultimate AGACNP Study Guide and Board Review Companion, and it is your AGACNP fundamentals system: the high-yield facts every acute care NP should know cold, repeated on purpose, in plain English, with memory hooks you can recall under pressure. Read it, repeat it, and these facts become automatic.

Here is what you get inside

ALERT boxesThe dangerous mistakes and red flags exams love to test.
MNEMONIC boxesSimple memory hooks you can pull up on test day.
DOSE tablesFirst-choice drugs highlighted, with treatment, not just symptoms.
BOARD PEARL boxesThe one fact that turns a 50/50 guess into a sure answer.
2025–2026 UPDATE boxesNewer guideline changes, with a warning on how to answer if the exam has not caught up yet.
Case vignettesPatient scenarios that train you to think the way board questions are written.
  • Plain-English analogies that make physiology click. Example: high blood pressure is “too much water pressure in the pipes.”
  • Repetition by design. Key doses repeat every time they appear, so you are not flipping back and forth.
  • Abbreviations spelled out so nothing slows you down when you are tired.
  • Organized by topic so you can go straight to the areas you miss in the free quiz below.
  • Day-one ready. Memorize these fundamentals and you walk into your first NP job knowing the first-choice drugs, the red flags, and the next steps, instead of asking 1,000 questions.

Who wrote this?

CG

Cynthia Getaneh, AGACNP. I have worked with older adults since 2004. I started as a CNA, then became an LPN, then an RN, and now a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

I know what it takes to climb every step of that ladder. I wrote this guide to be short, repetitive, and focused on what matters for the exam, so you can spend your time studying the right things.

How to get the most from it

You buy the guide once and keep it. Then follow these four steps:

  1. Find your gaps. Take the free quiz below and note the topics you miss. Start with those topics in the guide.
  2. Build the base. Keep reading. Focus on the ALERT boxes, first-choice drugs, and dose tables. Say the mnemonics out loud.
  3. Learn to read the question. Work through the case vignettes and BOARD PEARL boxes. Ask yourself: what is this question really testing?
  4. Lock it in. Finish the guide, review your weak topics again, and retake the quiz. Watch your score climb.

This guide is for you if…

  • You are in AGACNP school and want to pass your course exams
  • You are preparing for the ANCC AGACNP-BC or AACN ACNPC-AG exam
  • You are a new NP who wants the basics down cold before day one
  • You want high-yield fundamentals, not a 1,000-page textbook
  • You study best with memory hooks and repetition
  • You want to review on your phone during breaks

It is NOT for you if…

  • You want a full textbook with every detail
  • You are not willing to practice questions
  • You expect a shortcut that skips studying
